They may be over but One Direction is soothing grieving fans with a new music video.
The pop band, who is on hiatus, dropped the highly anticipated video for their latest single “History” on Tuesday.
And, unlike other tracks from the popular boy band, this one wasn’t about a girl.
Instead, it was a montage of the band’s past — and even former bandmate Zayn Malik was featured.
The band shared the love with Zayn Malik as their video reflected on the band’s past.
The video follows the band’s from their birth on “X-Factor” to their international rise, with behind-the-scenes images of tours, performances and meet and greet with fans.
Even scenes from their earlier videos like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life” were included.
The nostalgic-filled video is mainly a tribute to the large Directioner fanbase, with some lucky fans singing the chorus to the track.
“It’s really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they’ve done; I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album,” bandmate Liam Payne told Entertainment Weekly.
And, the emotional video is also a farewell to Malik.
Malik broke teens hearts in March 2015 when he split from the band.
Yet, the 23-year-old was featured heavily in the new video. As the video continues, however, his images become less as the focus turns to the fivesome-turned-foursome.
“Out of (“history”) comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction,” Payne told the magazine.
A few months after Malik’s departure, the band announced they would take a two-year hiatus to focus on their individual careers.
The video ends with Harry Styles throwing the peace sign and the four men walking off in separate directions.
