Trailer: Offspring Season 6
What Does The Future Hold For Nina?
May 20, 2016
Offspring‘s budget for extras has either evaporated or the show’s creators just pulled off one of the most ingenious headline-grabbing stunts on Australian television.
On Wednesday night’s episode, Asher Keddie’s singleton character Dr Nina Proudman shares a raunchy one-night stand with none other than her real-life husband, Vincent Fantauzzo.

The acclaimed Archibald-winning painter and Keddie married in 2014 and have one child together, 18-month-old son Valentino.
Fantauzzo plays Franklin, a colleague of Nina’s brother Wil, who she meets in a bar where she’s on a date with Offspring newcomer Dr Angus Freeman [Dan Wyllie].
Proudman ditches Freeman at the bar and ends up having a one-night stand with Franklin.

The on-screen chemistry between Keddie and Frantauzzo is natural as the two rip each others’ clothes off, making it one of the most salacious sequences in Offspring‘s six-year history.
Watching Keddie and Fantauzzo in bed almost feels voyeuristic.
This is the first time Fantauzzo has made a foray into acting and is an unusual move for the couple who keep their family live very private.
The scene has many fans calling for Fantauzzo to be made Keddie’s full-time love interest.
Wednesday’s episode marks a major character development for Nina, who has decided to start dating again after a failed relationship with Patrick Brammall’s Leo Taylor and the tragic death of her partner, Patrick Reid (Matthew Le Nevez).
Nina is confused and shocked after her tryst with Franklin, asking herself in an Uber on the way home: “What just happened? Who is the person who just did that?”
So can we expect Fantauzzo to make any more appearances?
Offspring fans aren’t impressed with the chemistry between Asher Keddie and Dan Wyllie, who played a married couple in Love My Way.
Offspring co-creator Imogen Banks was reticent about Keddie’s husband’s role, telling News Corp Australia his cameo was a treat for fans.
“We love to throw in a couple of unannounced cameos for eagle-eyed fans,” Banks said. “Vincent was perfect to play handsome stranger Franklin.”
Fans agreed with Banks on Twitter, commenting on the palpable chemistry between the married couple.
“Is it just me or should @vfantauzzo just be Nina’s new full-time love interest on @OffspringTV?” wrote one viewer.
It’s a legitimate question considering the backlash against Wyllie as Nina’s love interest this season.
Critics and fans alike have threatened to abandon the program unless the writing improves.
“This is the worst plot twist of all time … Stay single Nina,” tweeted one person of Wyllie’s character.
“If Nina ends up with that new doctor I’ll scream,” wrote another.
Offspring is known for its shocking plot twists so don’t be surprised if there’s an entirely new lover on the scene by next Wednesday’s episode.
Oh God not Angus. Dan Wyllie acts like he’s a Lego man in everything he appears in. #Offspring
