Madonna expressed her love for Sean Penn at his first event since the El Chapo interview was published.
The shocking release of Sean Penn’s jaw-dropping interview with Mexican drug lord El Chapo wasn’t the only bombshell involving the award-winning actor on Saturday.
Penn’s world-famous ex-wife, Madonna, stunned the audience at his “Help Haiti Home” charity gala in Beverly Hills when she expressed her long-standing love for the movie star, whom she divorced in 1989 after a tumultuous four-year marriage.
“I want to say Sean that I love you, from the moment I laid eyes on you,” she said during a speech at the event, according to TMZ. “And I still love you just the same.”
Penn and the “Material Girl” singer also held hands as they arrived at the fundraiser together..
Penn’s appearance at the charity event came just hours after Rolling Stone published his astonishing interview with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman — who agreed to speak to Penn while he was on the run from Mexican authorities after breaking out of a maximum-security prison in July.
In the interview, Guzman detailed his escape from prison and told Penn he supplies “more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world.”
Penn and Madonna held hands as they entered the charity event on Saturday.
Guzman was recaptured by Mexican authorities on Jan. 8 — and Penn’s meeting with him reportedly helped Mexican authorities find the fugitive drug lord.
The Hollywood star was placed under investigation following the interview as well, a source told ABC News.

Penn chose not to address the interview during his appearance at the “Help Haiti Home” gala. Instead, Madonna stole the spotlight with her latest show of affection towards her ex-husband.
In October, the singer dedicated her song, “Secret,” to a “special guest” in the audience at her concert in Vancouver — which most people assumed to be Penn, who was sitting in the front row.
“Things haven’t been the same since you came into my life,” the song begins. “You found a way to touch my soul and I’m never, ever, ever gonna let it go.”
Penn had also attended the Queen of Pop’s show in New York the month earlier.
Then last month, Madonna went on record in an affidavit claiming Penn never beat or abused her in support of the actor’s $ 10 million defamation lawsuit against director Lee Daniels, who had compared Penn to scandal-scarred “Empire” star Terrence Howard.
