“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver tells [email protected] his TV job is nothing compared to that of his wife, Kate Norley, an Iraq war veteran who served as a U.S. Army medic.
“I’m incredibly proud of her for everything that she did and has done and is continuing to do and supporting everyone who she has served with,” Oliver told us at the 9th Annual Stand Up for Heroes event at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. “So, yeah, I have more skin in the game regarding veterans’ issues than you might imagine. I’m a British impostor! She went through a lot and I got to hear all the stories what it was like from her. She’s one of my heroes.”
Oliver says his lady also gets special treatment from him at home because she has seen so much.
“I can’t come home and say I had a really tough day at work today and see her roll her eyes and go, really?” he said. “And she would be like, ‘I can’t imagine how difficult it was for you. You clown!’ Rightly, I have no place to whine about anything. That’s the problem with living with someone who has fought a war. You lose the moral high ground.”
GOOD JEANS FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Martha Stewart, Rag & Bone honcho David Neville, Kate Spade, Robin Roberts and Abby Elliott helped raise $ 8 million for the Basser Center at its inaugural benefit at Cipriani Wall Street. The center, which focuses on the prevention and treatment of cancers, honored Jon Gray, global head of real estate at Blackstone, and his wife, Mindy Gray, who together have contributed over $ 30 million to fund the research center. Rag & Bone has created three limited-edition jeans with the Basser Center’s logo on them which sell for $ 215 with seven percent of sales benefitting the center.
GRIFFIN: I’M JUST LIKE A VIRGIN!
Comedian Kathy Griffin tells Adweek that doing five shows in the next month puts her on par with touring rock stars. “Yes, I’m Madonna now,” cracked Griffin, who will perform at Carnegie Hall Thursday night. “(But) imagine just visiting 80 cities in one year, much less playing 80 cities,” she said. Madonna, currently on her “Rebel Heart” world tour, was in Berlin on Wednesday and will perform in Sweden on Saturday.
BRA ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION
Now, a brassiere just like the Fantasy Bra worn by Lily Aldridge at Tuesday’s Victoria’s Secret lingerie show can be yours for just $ 2 million. Jeweler Pascal Mouawad, who has designed Fantasy Bras for the Victoria’s Secret show since 2001, tells [email protected] the bejeweled undergarment that once cost $ 10 million has dropped in price with hopes of appealing to the consumer market. But he says if someone like Pamela Anderson wants one of his blingy bras, additional material costs may apply. “It’d be more like $ 20 million,” he jokes.
LOOK AT ME — I HADID IT, MOM!
Reality TV star Yolanda Foster was a proud mom after her daughter Gigi Hadid walked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Hadid gives her “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” mom a peck on the cheek at the show’s after-party at Tao Downtown. The reality world was well represented at this year’s Victoria’s Secret show, where Kendall Jenner also strolled down the catwalk while her momager, Kris Jenner, watched on.
PALTROW COMES UN-GOOPED
Gwyneth Paltrow says she has “un-Goop” moments all the time.
Gwyneth Paltrow says she’s no stick in the mud. “I have un-Goop moments all the time, but I don’t think it’s un-Goop,” the Oscar-winner told Katie Couric at a Fats Company Innovation Festival at Skirball Center, in reference to her lifestyle website Goop. “I don’t think you can live an aesthetic life of, like, seaweed and air and brown rice,” she said. “I believe in food and sex and alcohol and laughing, but I also believe in trying to achieve what it is that you can while you’re here.”

JENNIFER GOES HOME FOR HAMM
After announcing a split two months ago, Jennifer Westfeldt is spotted arriving — with suitcases — at Jon Hamm’s Los Angeles home. The actress, who shares a dog named Cora with her former boyfriend of 18 years, lugged her bags into, not out of, the “Mad Men” star’s pad on Tuesday. Perhaps they patched things up — the two were also spotted earlier this week out in New York, with Westfeldt’s hand on Hamm’s arm.
‘BIRDMAN’ IS A HOMING PIGEON
There was something of a homecoming for Michael Keaton when he went to see “Something Rotten!” at the St. James Theater — where he filmed his Oscar-winning movie, “Birdman.” We’re told the actor caught the show to see Brian d’Arcy James — his co-star in the movie “Spotlight” — perform. He hung out backstage after the show at “the theater he spent so much time at and recounted his favorite moment filming the infamous scene where he ran out of the theater into Times Square in his underwear,” a spy said.

Cortes told [email protected] he discovered his calling during a missile attack in Iraq. “Each passing minute, (the missiles) just got closer and closer to my position and I really thought for sure that I was going to die,” the “Gotham” star said. “It was that moment I realized I was too young to die — I wanted to live and I had dreams.” Cortes explained he came home “with that burning desire inside my stomach” to be an entertainer.
