They were just friends but Jake Gyllenhaal wanted more.
The movie star revealed that just like most men, he harbored an infatuation on actress Jennifer Aniston — for years.
“She’s a rough one, you know, not likable. So hard to compliment,” he joked to Entertainment Weekly.
“I will say I had a crush on her for years. And working with her was not easy,” the 35-year-old continued. “I was — um, yeah. That’s all I’m going to say. It was lovely. It wasn’t hard, that’s what I would say.”
The Hollywood hunk was only 22 when he played Aniston’s love interest and co-worker on the film “The Good Girl” in 2002.
At the time, the blond beauty was already climbing the A-list ladder with her beloved role on “Friends.”
But, the “Nightcrawler” actor explained his attraction to her wasn’t just about the hit show, or even her stunner looks.
“Not so much Friends, but kind of her personality from afar, and movies she was in,” he recalled. “And some of Friends — I’m not a huge Friends fan — but who she is.”
Needless to say, his major crush never led to a romance for the two actors.
After a high-profile divorce and a string of romances, Aniston tied the knot to Justin Theroux last August. Gyllenhaal — a serial dater — has yet to settle down.
