Hot air balloon carrying at least 16 people crashes in Texas

A hot air balloon crashed in Central Texas Saturday.

A hot air balloon carrying at least 16 people crashed in Central Texas Saturday morning.

It does not appear that anyone survived the fiery crash, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the accident happened about 7:40 a.m. Saturday near Lockhart, Texas, when the hot air balloon crashed into a pasture.

It’s unclear what caused the crash. No other details were immediately available.

Hot-air balloon handler falls to death in ‘freak accident’

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

Lockhart is about 30 miles south of Austin.
