In recent years, the battery case for smartphones has become a must-have accessory. Snap your smartphone on to a case like a Mophie and you have a case that also carries enough juice for a full day.

Now, Apple is getting in on the battery case business. The company revealed Tuesday a new smart battery case for the iPhone 6S. It sells for $99.

The battery case promises up to 25 hours of additional talk time and 18 more hours of Internet use while on LTE networks. The case boasts a silicone exterior and a hinge design so the case is easy to remove.

The case supports the Lightning connector, and can charge simultaneously with the phone. Most rival battery cases do the same, but usually require a micro-USB cord to charge.

The move by Apple is interesting, since they appear to be the only smartphone maker to create their own battery case. The market has been dominated by third-party case makers including Mophie, Boostcase and Anker.
