Sydney traffic: burst water main on Lane Cove Road causes peak-hour delays

A burst water main on Lane Cove Road is causing traffic mayhem in Macquarie Park on Tuesday morning, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.

North-bound traffic was banked up for eight kilometres and buses in the area were delayed by an hour just after 8am, and the delays were expected to persist throughout the morning peak at least.

The Transport Management Centre said the water main near Waterloo Road burst early on Tuesday morning, forcing the closure of two of three north-bound lanes.

The water has since been turned off but the road surface and several power poles were damaged.

The lanes are expected to remain closed “for some time” while the damage is fixed, a TMC spokeswoman said.

“Motorists should avoid the area where possible or allow plenty of extra travel time,” she said.
