Facebook wants to help users manage its smartphone notifications.
The social network launched an app Wednesday called Notify. The app features a list of “stations” across multiple areas, including news, sports, tech and entertainment.
When users choose a channel, they will receive notifications. Types of alerts range from weather reports to sports scores and top news stories.
Notifications pop up on the smartphone user’s lock screen, where they can swipe to save a notification to view later or share it with friends by text, email, Facebook or another service.
Outlets including CNN, CBS Sports, Buzzfeed, People, The Washington Post and The Weather Channel will offer “stations” users can add to the app. It’s only available through Apple’s App Store.
