Lee Thompson Young was found dead Monday morning inside his North Hollywood apartment.
LOS ANGELES — The production of TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” has been suspended for the week as investigators hunt for the reason cast member Lee Thompson Young committed suicide.
Young, 29, was found dead Monday in his North Hollywood apartment with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.
“It’s still a mystery. Evidently he was a clean-cut kid who didn’t use alcohol and had no reported drug problem,” a law enforcement source told the Daily News Tuesday.
The source said investigators recovered a gun at the scene but had not found a suicide note as of late Monday.
“He was ill. You don’t just do this,” a close friend who’s known Young since he was a teenager told the Daily News.
The Los Angeles County Coroner leaves with actor Lee Thompson Young’s body from his North Hollywood apartment following his apparent suicide.
The friend said Young practiced Yoruba, a religious faith based predominantly in Nigeria and southern Benin, and that he took a trip to a Yoruba village with him mom several months ago for a “beautiful ceremony.”
“He was very close to his mother and sister,” the friend said. “He had a great support network. He had his local priest and lots of good friends who were like family, including the ‘Rizzoli’ cast.”
The friend said a report linking Young’s depression to his religion was “a gross mischaracterization.”
A better explanation, the friend said, is that Young was drawn to religion because he yearned for enlightenment and may have been “too sensitive” for this world.

“He wouldn’t even play characters that were bad. He was all about good,” the friend said.
Cops discovered Young’s body after he missed a call time on the set of “Rizzoli & Isles” and police were called.
The hit Boston police drama immediately halted production as news of his tragic passing spread.
“They plan to remain dark for the rest of the week,” a source close to the production told the News.
The source said it was “too soon” to discuss how producers might move forward with scripts that include Young’s cop character, Detective Barry Frost.
